Dorper Sheep Est 2010 Flock 034.
The Hope Flock of
Dorper Sheep was established in 2010. Stock was imported from
Germany. We have had our first crop of beautiful lambs this year. many
of which will be offered for sale, male and female. We went into
keeping Dorper Sheep due to the fact they are renowned for
shedding their 'wool' which means less likely of fly strike. And
are easy Lambers. which we hope to produce crossing Rams
Dorpers were created
in South Africa in 1942 by crossing Dorset Horn Ram and a
Persian Black Headed Ewes thus creating a hardy, prolific, milky breed
of sheep.
The Dorper is renowned world
wide for its quality carcass and confirmation and Dorper cross
lambs are regularly winning carcass competitions . Even
though the UK already has some excellent terminal sires breeds are not
without its problems, again causing more labour. The Dorper lamb is
born with little worry to this problem due to the breeds high meat to
bone ratio and along with dense hair coat, natural
hardiness and amazing vigor, they quite literally 'hit the floor
running' most lambs are on their feet within 5 minutes and suckled
within 15 minutes.
